The next video is from a 1988 appearance on a show called Night Network. You could be mistaken for thinking that it was a different band, thanks to the addition of a drum machine and more samples than you can shake a stick at. And this time they take nearly 16 minutes to play a mere 4 songs. The colours on this video are rather bright, but everything was brighter 20 years ago. The last track cuts out just before the end, but that's how the video ends.

Have to thank Tom for sending this bootleg in, along with 2 others that will be uploaded sometime soon. Here's what the info text has to say about it.

Track 1-4: This was a tape of the session passed out by the band
prior to broadcast back in 1990. This copy is about 2nd or 3rd generation and
has some tape hiss between tracks which can't be noticed once the music kicks in
(you could always remove it yourself if such things bother you). The tracks were
subsequently broadcast in a different order.

Track 5: This was not a part of the broadcast. It is an unreleased
rehearsal from '89 or '90 that one of the band had included on an old mix-tape.
I don't think it's seen any circulation so is included here as a bonus. Sound
quality overall is a fair B+ with the exception of track 5 which sounds like it
could have been made on an old boom-box.

Mr Jim Bob Morrison of Carter USM is currently on tour promoting his new album, Goffam, and this audience recording comes from Coatbridge near Glasgow. This gig was initially broadcast on the now defunct Fabchannel website, so it's excellent quality. The video started out as a .wmv, but I've done a bit of work on it and converted it to .avi. The video has been sharpened up, as has the audio. A very entertaining 96 minutes from the last night of a Dutch tour, though I think Mr Cairns may have started his end of tour celebrations a bit early - maybe he breathed in a bit much of that Amsterdam air. ;-)

Butthole Surfers - Double Live bootleg

This bootleg was made by the band themselves, and they've given it away free on their site. The version here has the track names fixed and the ID3 tags sorted, so it's slightly improved for us geeky types. Anyway, here is the description that the band have for it.

In the mid 80's there were a bunch of bad sounding live bootlegs for sale. By '88 the band felt they could bootleg the band as well as everybody else, so they joined the crowd and released their own crappy bootleg too.

Taking a portable DAT recorder on the road, they taped shows in the winter of '88. When they got back to Texas, they sorted through the DATs and compiled the best of it to a 2 disc, 29 song set on their newly formed Latino Buggerveil label.

Slightly better sounding than most bootlegs of the time, only a limited pressing was made and it went out of print farily quickly.

Since it's doubtful this will ever be reissued again, here all the songs in the MP3 format, for those who want it but are reluctant to cough up the 100 bucks or so for an original copy on Ebay.
